What Is EMDR Therapy? A Guide for People Who’ve Tried Talk Therapy and Still Feel Stuck

If you’ve tried talk therapy before and felt like it didn’t get you the relief you were hoping for, you’re not alone. Many of my clients come to me after years of traditional therapy, feeling frustrated and wondering if anything will actually help.

Here’s the truth: just because other therapies haven’t worked for you doesn’t mean EMDR won’t. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is different. While no therapist can guarantee results, what I can tell you — from both my personal and professional experience — is that EMDR works for clients who are stable, ready, and willing to engage in the work of healing.

EMDR isn’t about talking endlessly about the past. Instead, it’s about helping your brain actually reprocess the moments that got “stuck,” so they no longer fuel the anxiety, patterns, or symptoms you’re experiencing today. You stay in control the entire time — I’m here as your guide and support.

If you’ve felt stuck in therapy before, EMDR may be the piece you’ve been missing.
